The West Cork Garden Trail was set up in 1993 by a small group of gardening enthusiasts who decided to open their gardens to the public for a limited period of time over the summer.
The idea quickly took hold and it wasn’t long before others joined. Indeed just 5 years later the number of gardens in the West Cork Garden Trail had grown to 17.
Today the West Cork Garden Trail is the longest running trail of its kind in Ireland and it represents 20 gardens, large and small throughout the region. Diversity is at the heart of its success. From well-known gardens, to hidden gems, you’ll find formally designed gardens and natural havens. Some gardens are dedicated to the garden enthusiast, others to family fun days out. We have formal and informal, traditional and quirky gardens, as well as those with hidden histories and famous past residents. Our gardens are full of colour, many are good enough to eat and we even have a medicinal garden full of herbs. Many are open all year around, others during the summer, whilst a few have limited opening dates.
We have divided the Trail into 5 geographical areas to make it easy to navigate and plan your trip.
We hope you enjoy the West Cork Garden Trail.

Andy & Ingolf
Inspired by their travels near and far, Andy & Ingolf have created the gardens of Ballycommane House over the past 15 years. The garden contains many fragrant and edible plants from around the world including rare plants from the Azores, as well as an historical bronze-age monument. When not gardening, Andy & Ingolf also love walking and exploring beautiful West Cork.
