The Launch 25th Anniversary - West Cork Garden Trail

Drishane House and Gardens

Event Details:

on Friday 3rd May, 2019 at 2.30 p.m.


Seamus O’Brien of the National Botanical Gardens, Kilmacurragh in a presentation of his extraordinary experiences in the Himalaya ‘IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF JOSEPH DALTON HOOKER’.

This will be followed by a book signing, a walk in the magnificent gardens and commentary by Seamus on its luxuriant trees, shrubs and unusual plants.

At Templebreedy Gardens, Crosshaven

Event Details:

EVENT: Garden tour and lecture at Templebreedy Gardens with Finola Reid. Walk-about and Talk-about leading into a discussion “Heritage Gardens & Gardening Skills – Trained gardeners are as rare as hens’ teeth. Should or shouldn’t we worry?”

Finola Reid is an acclaimed garden historian with an encyclopaedic knowledge of Irish garden history. She is a contributor to The Irish Garden magazine and former TV garden show presenter. She managed the ‘Great Gardens of Ireland Restoration Programme’ and is currently involved in the restoration and conservation of Dowth Hall (UNESCO site).

EVENT: Historical walk & talk about the house & gardens of Fernhill followed by Vintage Afternoon Tea.

DATE: First Thursday of each month at 11 a.m.

Event Details:

EVENT: ‘Celebration of the Tulip’ Weekend

DATE: April 27th/28th

EVENT: ‘Weekend with Charles Dowding’.
This weekend will comprise of an evening and supper with Charles followed the next day by a full day Workshop. Charles has been growing and selling vegetables in Somerset since the early 1980’s. He is a ‘No Dig’ guru, author of 9 books and 2018 winner of the Garden Media Guilds Social Media Influencer of the year.

At Comillane Gardens, Cape Clear Island

Event Details:

EVENT: Open Day at Ireland’s most southerly garden, with artworks by the owners. At 3.00 p.m., Emma will be opening her studio and showing her abstract, mixed media paintings.

At 4.00 p.m., Michael will be conducting a bioelectrical plant sound installation, with live sounds from the plants in the garden! See our Facebook page ‘Comillane Gardens’ for further details.

EVENT: 2 - 3 hour workshop
Picking herbs and making infused oils, salves, creams and syrups

At Ballycommane House & Garden, Durrus

Event Details:

EVENT: The Ballycommane boulder-burial site with its pair of standing stones gives testimony to a great religious cult of sun worship. William O’Brien, Professor of Archaeology at UCC, will give an open-air talk at the ancient monument. We’ll then proceed to the new Ballycommane visitor centre, where Professor O’Brien will continue his talk on Bronze Age monuments in Cork and their religious and cultural significance. The event will be followed by tea & coffee and a chance to explore the gardens. Booking essential, visit to purchase tickets

At The Garden of Re-Imagination, Glengarriff

Event Details:

EVENT: Golden Ticket Tea Parties.
To celebrate 25 years of the West Cork Garden trail we’re throwing three Summer Tea Parties inside the Willy-Wonka inspired edible paradise, The Garden of Re-Imagination. Tickets €10pp (normally €15-25pp) will include a Garden Tour and an exclusive edible gift!

DATE: Tea parties will take place on the first Sunday of June, July & August with 3 slots running daily at 10 a.m., 1 & 4 p.m. and 2 Golden Tickets available for each, granting the bearer FREE entry. Winners of Golden Tickets picked from Willy Wonkas hat on arrival. Homemade treats and drinks using rare and unusual botanicals from the garden will be available for purchase from the pop-up café throughout the day.
