Plant sound installation by Michael Prime

Event Details:

For the past 20 years, Michael has been performing his plant sound installations at galleries, museums and gardens all over the world. By amplifying the electrical signals produced by living plants, he creates a sound world where plants can be heard to interact with their environment. His performance at the Open Ear Festival on Sherkin Island in 2019 helped to introduce a new audience to his work.

Come and learn to make herbal infused oils, salves, creams, syrups and oxymels from foraged herbs from the medicinal herb garden. Light refreshment included.

‘Seed and plant exchange’

Event Details:

We have been saving our flower seeds – mainly wildflowers and cottage garden, especially poppies! Please bring any plants or seeds you have to exchange and help spread the pollen for our bees!

Garden Tour

Join lifetime gardener, Eugene Wiseman for an hour-long tour of this very special garden – one of the longest serving within the West Cork Garden Trail. An oasis of peace and serenity in the heart of Durrus, Carraig Abhainn is a 30-year labour of love for Eugene and his wife Hazel. Enhanced by the woodland setting and surrounding mill stream, river and spectacular waterfall, many tender and rare plants thrive in this mild, sheltered climate, providing continuous interest throughout the year. Special features in this beautiful three-acre garden include five locally made bridges, a charming portico with a wonderful landscape painting by a local artist and unique sculptures and statues strategically placed throughout the garden

“Rare plants from the Azores”

Event Details:

Walk & talk about the gardens of Ballycommane with a focus on plants from the Azores. Andy will talk about their subtropical origin and how they can be grown to great success in an Irish garden. Their cultivation helps biodiversity and species conservation, as some of these plants are endangered and almost extinct in the wild. The tour will be followed by tea, coffee and home-baking.
